Spotlight Theater Company

Children's Dance Theater offers instruction in the Theater Arts as well as dance. If your child is acting, singing and dancing all over the house then you need to give one of our classes a try. Our school year program is designated into three sessions a year and by age. New and experienced actors are welcome to sign up and be a part of our shows.

How It Works

1

Audition

“Auditions” take place in the first week of our quarterly sessions. They are designed to teach new actors about the audition process of any theater production. Every student will have a part in our shows and are asked to audition for role placement only.

Rehearse

Once they have auditioned, our actors meet twice a week for 7-10 weeks to gear up for a fantastic production!

2

Perform

At the end of the season, our well-rehearsed and excited kiddos will have the opportunity to perform what they have learned for their friends, family and community. It is a great opportunity to shine on stage!

3

Present a Scene

The “Present A Scene” are three sessions a school year, highlighting smaller sections from well known musicals. This is the perfect spot for actors ages 3-6 to try out what the theater arts are all about.

Youth Productions

Enjoy being a part of the big show with the Spotlight Theater productions! There are three productions a school year, each with a unique story and theme. We also host a youth summer theater camp with sets, costumes, props and stage lighting. These well known musicals will help your child become a true triple threat. They will sing, dance and act their way into the spotlight!

Teen Productions

In Theater Lab, performers will work towards honing their theatrical skills with specialized classes and new opportunities. Classes may include things like scene study, technical theater, puppetry, or even full-scale productions. In all of our Theater Lab classes, teen actors will push their limits, challenge their expectations of themselves, and achieve new heights in the theatrical work.

Elf: The Musical JR

Fall Production: 9/15-11/23

A title known the world over, Elf The Musical JR. is a must-produce holiday musical that can easily become an annual tradition for any theatre. Based on the cherished New Line Cinema hit, Elf JR. features songs by Tony Award-nominees, Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Tony Award-winners, Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.

Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

This modern-day holiday classic is sure to make every young performer embrace his or her "inner elf" with plenty of large ensemble numbers featuring elves and (New Yorkers) of every type.

Matilda: The Musical JR

Winter Production: 1/14-3/29

Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda JR. is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

Seussical Kids

Spring Production: 4/13-5/31

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime).

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold — not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
